About this policy

This policy describes the data practices of Shopping List, a native iPhone app developed by Benjamin Conrad. Shopping List is a local-first app for maintaining shopping lists, with optional synchronization to Mealie. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Mealie project or the Open Facts projects.

Data collected by the developer

None. The developer does not receive or store personal data, usage data, identifiers, diagnostics, camera content, or scan history. Shopping List does not use advertising or analytics SDKs and does not track users across apps or websites.

Camera access

The app requests camera access only to recognize EAN and UPC barcodes. Camera frames are processed on the device. Shopping List does not save photos or video and does not transmit camera frames to the developer, Mealie, or Open Facts services.

Information stored on your device

The app stores only the information needed to work:

  • local shopping lists and their items, cached product metadata, list-to-provider mappings, stores, shopping sessions, and purchase history;
  • Mealie server details and API token in the iOS Keychain when you configure synchronization;
  • custom barcode labels;
  • product-lookup, language, and list-view preferences.

This information remains in private app storage on your device and is not available to the developer.

Communication with Mealie

Mealie synchronization is optional. When you connect a self-hosted Mealie server, the app communicates directly with the server URL you provide and uses the API token you supply. It retrieves mapped shopping lists and synchronizes item names, quantities, units, completion state, and remote item identifiers as needed. The operator of that Mealie server controls its processing, retention, and deletion practices.

Product-information lookups

Unless you use a custom local label, the app sends the scanned barcode and a language and country code derived from your device locale to the Open Facts product-information services. These include Open Food Facts, Open Products Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Pet Food Facts. Those services and their hosting providers may also receive standard network information such as your IP address, request time, and user-agent information. Their own privacy notices govern that processing.

Sharing, sale, and tracking

The developer does not sell personal information, use it for advertising, create advertising profiles, share it with data brokers, or track users. Information is sent only to Mealie and Open Facts when necessary to perform an action you request.

Retention and deletion

The developer retains no user information. Disconnecting Mealie removes its locally stored connection details. Lists, items, stores, shopping history, and custom labels can be removed in the app. Deleting the app removes its other local data, subject to your operating system's storage and backup behavior. Information sent to Mealie or Open Facts is subject to those services' retention and deletion practices. Account requests must be directed to the relevant server operator or service because the developer cannot access or delete that data.

Security

Mealie connection secrets use the iOS Keychain. Other local records use the app's private application storage. Open Facts requests use HTTPS; Mealie uses the server URL you configure. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children's privacy

Shopping List is a general-audience utility and is not directed specifically to children. The app does not knowingly collect children's personal information on a developer-controlled server.

International processing

The operator of a configured Mealie server and Open Facts may process information outside your country. Their respective privacy notices describe their processing locations and safeguards.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if the app's functionality or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
